Game Changers will conclude at Champions in 2027, bringing its finale into the VCT’s biggest event of the year. The change is part of Riot’s tournament-first plan for next season, which replaces long stretches of league play with a circuit of Opens, Kickoff, Cups, Masters and Champions.
Riot’s October 15 Global Tour announcement sets out more than 50 tournaments and a season spanning 15 cities. The tournament count covers the wider circuit, including Opens and Cups; it is not a promise of 50 international Masters-style events.
A different destination for Game Changers
KRÜ BLAZE won the 2026 São Paulo championship on November 1, beating Gentle Mates 3–2 in the grand final. Riot’s official bracket confirms the result of the last standalone edition. The 2027 announcement changes where the season concludes: Riot explicitly places that finale at Champions.
The announcement does not yet set out the Game Changers finale’s detailed bracket or its place in the daily Champions schedule. It also does not say that Game Changers teams are being merged into the main Champions competition. The confirmed change is the destination for the finale, not a new shared qualification route.
More than one chance to enter
The wider VCT season will offer open qualification throughout the year. Regional Opens are intended to let teams compete locally and progress toward Cups and global events. That creates further entry opportunities after the opening round of Kickoff qualifiers, rather than making November a team’s only shot at the entire 2027 season.
Riot says qualifying open teams will receive more financial support, including guaranteed qualification payments. Its Global Tour article does not give a per-team amount or a payout table.
The first step is this November
Kickoff qualifiers for the 2027 season begin in November 2026. For North American teams, our Kickoff qualifier guide covers the announced registration routes and deadlines.
Partner status gives teams their starting place at Kickoff, but it does not protect their progress after that. In the new structure, established organisations and teams arriving through the open route must keep earning their places through results.
