VALORANT’s Performance Score now gives more weight to damage, adjusted kills and adjusted deaths, including First Bloods and First Deaths. Riot documented the changes in patch 13.08, but says they actually went live during 13.06.
That timing helps explain a change players may already have noticed. This is not a new scoring adjustment rolling out on 26 October, and it does not turn Performance Score into Average Combat Score (ACS).
Why Riot adjusted the score
In its 13.08 notes, Riot says Performance Score was doing a good job of valuing contributions across agents and roles while still recognising fragging. At launch, it agreed with ACS on Match MVP roughly 70% of the time.
That figure describes agreement on the MVP selection—not a claim that 70% of the scoring formula is kills or damage. Riot expected some disagreement because Performance Score measures additional factors, but found edge cases where those factors had too much influence.
The response was to raise the impact of Damage, Adjusted Kills and Adjusted Deaths. Riot explicitly includes First Bloods and First Deaths within those adjusted metrics. Both sides of the opening duel matter to the stated change, rather than just the reward for securing the first kill.
What changes for Chamber?
Riot also made Chamber-specific adjustments intended to reflect his utility use more accurately. The notes do not publish a numerical coefficient for Chamber or a complete scoring formula.
That leaves a useful boundary when reviewing your matches: the system has been retuned to recognise gunfights more strongly and Chamber’s utility more appropriately, but the patch notes do not support calculating an exact score increase from a particular kill or ability use.
Performance Score also feeds Map Rating
Performance Score is one of four primary stats used by the new Map Rating, alongside overall win rate, attacker win rate and defender win rate. It is therefore only one part of that map-specific assessment; it does not replace winning rounds and matches.
