Crouching inside Moisty Palms’ Rift Zone turns you into a random prop in Fortnite OG. It does not make you invulnerable: props can still take damage. That trade-off is one of two location-specific mechanics in Epic’s OG v42.40 update, alongside Cube Monsters in Retail Row.

These changes belong to Fortnite OG, not the separate Battle Royale Final Spritemare event. Epic’s update notes were published earlier in October; this is a guide to those mechanics, not a new patch announcement.

Moisty Palms: cover is not protection

The Reality Wave transforms Paradise Palms into a mixture of desert and marsh. Inside its Rift Zone, crouching triggers the random-prop transformation. Because the resulting prop remains damageable, blending into the scenery can conceal a player’s position but cannot absorb incoming fire for free.

That makes the crouch input worth remembering before a fight: in this zone it has a second function beyond lowering your character. The update notes describe a random transformation, rather than a choice of prop.

Retail Row: monsters, Obelisks and health

The other Rift Zone replaces Mega Mall with Retail Row. Cube Monsters spawn from Obelisks around the area. Destroying the Obelisks stems their spawning; eliminating the monsters themselves siphons health.

Those are two different incentives. Clearing a spawning point reduces the continuing threat, while fighting the creatures offers a health return.

What changed in the OG loot pool?

The same update adds the Legendary Tactical SMG, Zapper Trap and Shield Bubble. It unvaults the Suppressed Assault Rifle, Flint-Knock Pistol and Bouncer.

Six items leave the pool: Burst SMG, Combat Shotgun, Drum Shotgun, Proximity Grenade Launcher, Storm Scout Sniper Rifle and Storm Flip. Those removals matter when planning a loadout around a familiar Chapter 1 location: the returning map names do not mean every older weapon is available.

Epic also fixes Tilted Town chests that could grant no weapons and rarely grant consumables. That fix is listed separately from the Rift Zone mechanics and weapon changes.
