Taric’s linked spells no longer fail simply because his bound ally is untargetable. League of Legends patch 26.21 lets Starlight’s Touch, Dazzle and Cosmic Radiance fire in that situation, but keeps a specific restriction on Dazzle: it will not cast from an ally who has vanished from the screen.
That exception matters when judging whether the update restores every old interaction. Riot explicitly singles out Master Yi in its explanation of the remaining restriction. “Untargetable” is not a blanket promise that the stun will emerge from every ally during every ability.
What changes for Q, E and R
Riot’s 26.21 notes describe the changes as cast behaviour:
- Q — Starlight’s Touch: casts made while the ally is untargetable now successfully fire.
- E — Dazzle: also fires for untargetable allies, except that it does not cast from vanished allies. The tooltip now states that exception.
- R — Cosmic Radiance: casts made while the ally is untargetable now successfully fire.
The distinction is between the ally being unavailable as a target and the ally disappearing from the screen. Riot retains the latter exception for Dazzle because it considers the resulting gameplay too unclear.
These changes concern whether the linked spell fires. They are not listed as increases to healing, stun duration or the duration of Cosmic Radiance’s protection.
Why an old anti-funnel restriction was relaxed
Riot says the original restriction came from changes made to counter Master Yi–Taric funnel strategies. One consequence was that Taric’s spells could fizzle if the bound ally became untargetable at the same time.
The developers now consider that broad restriction unnecessary with Role Quests in the game. They have partially reversed it, while deliberately retaining Dazzle’s vanished-ally exception. That makes this a narrower change than restoring all the interactions associated with the old strategy.
Twisted Fate gets a related visibility change
In the same patch, Twisted Fate’s Destiny now reveals untargetable units. Riot presents it alongside Taric’s quality-of-life changes, but the effects are different: Destiny reveals a unit, whereas Taric’s changes determine whether his linked casts fire.
These are live-game 26.21 changes. Worlds 2026 uses patch 26.20, so do not expect a Worlds broadcast to demonstrate the updated Taric interaction. Our Worlds Swiss-stage guide covers that tournament’s format separately.
