Fortnite’s Epic Quality Assets download does not include your whole Locker

The launcher’s renamed texture option stores Epic-quality world assets locally, while cosmetics still stream. Here is where to find it and what changes if you used High Resolution Textures.

Fortnite’s Epic Quality Assets option downloads high-quality world content to your PC, but cosmetics still download on demand. The distinction matters if you are trying to reduce how much Fortnite has to fetch while you play: checking the box is not an offline download of everything in your Locker.

Epic introduced the option in its 1 October v42.30 notes, replacing the launcher’s previous High Resolution Textures option. Players who already had that older package installed are moved to the new option automatically.

Where to find the download

In the Epic Games Launcher, open your Library, click the three dots on the Fortnite tile, then choose Options. The package is labelled Epic Quality Assets.

Epic says the download covers Epic-quality gameplay content, including map terrain and objects. It is a local asset package: downloading it means that content does not have to depend on your connection being available to deliver the same visual assets during play.

It is separate from changing an in-game graphics preset. The package determines which assets are downloaded; it does not establish what frame rate your PC will achieve at Epic settings.

Why outfits can still load over the network

Cosmetics remain on-demand downloads under the system described by Epic. The developer says this keeps the installation size lean regardless of how large a player’s Locker becomes.

That leaves two different categories to consider: world assets covered by the optional package, and cosmetics that continue to arrive over the connection. Seeing a cosmetic download does not, by itself, mean the Epic Quality Assets option has failed.

Epic has not given a fixed package size in these notes. Check the launcher’s actual download requirement on your own installation rather than budgeting storage from an older High Resolution Textures figure.

Gameplay traffic takes priority over streamed assets

Epic also describes a bandwidth change introduced in v42.20, before the renamed download option. Fortnite automatically balances the connection between gameplay and streamed assets, reserving what gameplay needs when bandwidth is limited and using spare capacity to load cosmetics and the world faster.

Epic has not published latency or frame-rate benchmarks for this change.

A similar install option for High-quality textures is described as a future plan, rather than a second released package in the v42.30 announcement. Do not confuse that proposed option with the available Epic Quality Assets checkbox.
