Apex’s Akimbo Wingman fires in pairs—but the two shots are not simultaneous

Cipher’s dual revolvers use a sequential burst with each trigger pull. Respawn is also bringing back the Hemlok Burst AR and vaulting the Elite Hemlok.

Apex Legends’ Akimbo Wingman will fire two shots in sequence with one trigger pull, rather than discharge both revolvers simultaneously. Respawn describes it as the game’s first “burst” akimbo weapon, coming with Cipher on November 3, 2026.

The distinction is central to how the new pairing works. Dual-wielding supplies the visual spectacle, but the firing rhythm is a short one-two: one Wingman fires, then the other. Respawn’s October 30 designer notes describe that sequence without publishing its exact interval.

A different rhythm for the Wingman

The developers say they want to preserve the Wingman’s demanding, mid-range poke identity while making it less intimidating to pick up. The burst design is their answer: a different firing pattern for an established precision weapon, rather than simply copying the other akimbo guns.

Cipher has not launched as of November 1, and Respawn says its full patch notes arrive November 2, ahead of the November 3 season start. The preview does not establish damage values, burst timing or a time-to-kill comparison.

The Hemlok changes alongside it

The same designer notes confirm that the Elite Hemlok, identified in the section as the Hemlok Breach AR, will be vaulted as Akimbo Wingman arrives. The Hemlok Burst AR will return.

Respawn says the Breach version has remained popular since its introduction in 28.1, but considers this the right point to rotate it out. The returning gun is specifically the Burst AR.

Prowler and Nemesis also face nerfs

Respawn identifies the Prowler and Nemesis as two weapons whose usage and win rates have risen through the season. Both are due nerfs in Cipher, although this preview does not give the numerical changes.

The November 2 patch notes are the next announced source for exact tuning; the new Stronghold loot objective and Crypto rework arrive with the same season.
